Why You’re Still Seeking Enlightenment

Spirituality is in a sad state of affairs. The harsh reality is that most people who embark on the path of enlightenment fail to reach it. There are many explanations for this, but the simplest is that they aren’t really serious about arriving.

To the casual observer, they seem absolutely devoted to their search for enlightenment. They never skip a meditation, they diligently practice their yoga, they strive to find peace in every moment. In truth, most of their efforts are an avoidance of the real work.

The ego finds solace in the pursuit of pleasant meditative states and lofty spiritual ideals. Real spirituality is looking yourself in the eye and fighting your illusions to the death. Confronting your false beliefs, discovering the desires lurking beneath the surface, seeing the emptiness of your own chattering mind, this is where the real progress is made.

The key to enlightenment is not outward dedication to spiritual practices, but the sincere and relentless pursuit of truth.
